I have a 9-year-old lab that is very calm now. When she was a puppy we had a hard time with her aggressive behavior. When she was around us, she would act just fine and be normal. Every once in awhile should would do something toward me that was aggresive but for the most part she was fine. The second we had her around different people, she would go crazy. We had her trained not to jump on us, but should would try to jump all over new people. It got to the point when someone would come over to our house, we would have to put her away. To get over this, I would try my hardest to get her tired. We would go on walks everyday and if she saw something new, she would be too tired to get all crazy. After a year or so everything got better for us. She is now calm and doesnt jump on anything or anyone.

i have a year and a half old lab mix (lucy) that is ordinarily a sweet, fairly well behaved pup, but several times lately when we have gone to the dog park there has been a problem:

she has a dog-buddy (ruby) who is about 6 months younger than she is. they play rough, but it's pretty clear it's just play, and other than a yelp here and there, it's mostly just chase games and never progresses to anything more.
however, if another dog shows *any* interest in ruby, or any sign of aggression toward ruby, lucy loses her mind, ceases to hear or see me, and becomes a terrifying, snarling 'i'm going to rip your throat out' kind of dog. once i pull her out of the situation and remove her from the immediate area, she's perfectly calm and pays no further attention to the other dogs. i have no idea if she would really hurt another dog, and am not really interested in finding out. :) she has shown this kind of behavior towards other dogs when they have tried to take a toy or a stick from her, so i think maybe she also considers ruby a possession, but i don't know how to stop this behavior. help!
