Have You Seen These Top Eight Dog Training Pages?
What pages out of the dozens on training-dogs.com do people read the most? More to the point for you, are any of these ones that could help you right now?
Through website analysis that Google provides to webmasters, I can find out what people read. I know that the site gets about 500 to 800 people visiting it each day, and sometimes I get a bit puffed up about how much of an effect I must be having on dog training. These stats unpuffed me pretty quickly, as the average amount of time someone spends on this site is about two minutes. Oh well, that’s a bit better than the overall internet average, and of course if some people are outta here in a few seconds, others do take a lot longer.
Here are the top eight pages on the site, as of summer 2008, in the order of popularity. The links open in a new page or tab, so you can open a bunch easily:
1. http://www.training-dogs.com/potty-training-dogs.html
This is a comprehensive step-by-step guide to housetraining puppies mainly, with a few tips on adult dogs, and people linger here for 4 minutes and 4 seconds on average.
2. http://www.training-dogs.com/crate-training.html
People average 3 minutes 24 seconds here, reading about crate training, how to do it, and alternatives to it.
3. http://www.training-dogs.com/dog-training-tips/index.html
This lists a number of dog training tips that originally appeared in my old newsletter. (People don’t stay here long; they click through to the articles.)
4. http://www.training-dogs.com/dog-crates.html
This description of different kinds of dog crates keeps visitors for an average of 2 minutes 18 seconds.
5. http://www.training-dogs.com/puppy-supplies.html
A checklist of puppy supplies with comments. Readers average 3 minutes 18 seconds.
6. http://www.training-dogs.com/dog-clicker-training.html
Clicker training dogs is a topic dear to my heart, and enough readers are interested to make an average of 2 minutes and 31 seconds. Some of them go on to subscribe to my Tuesday email newsletter and get my free ebook on clicker training.
7. http://www.training-dogs.com/puppy-training.html
This introduction to puppy training averages 2 minutes and 45 seconds reading time.
8. http://www.training-dogs.com/dog-toy-kong.html
I was surprised that this page of tips on using a Kong was so high on the list. It keeps readers for 1 minute 49 seconds average. But then Kongs are fabulous for keeping dogs occupied and out of trouble!
There were some other well-ranked pages, like the homepage, that are really just portals to different parts of the site, so I didn’t put them here, emphasizing the content-filled pages for this list. This data from Google didn’t include blog pages; I’ll do another post sometime on them.
