Hi Glenda --

Yes, the new tips are free. You'll be notified of them through my Tuesday morning email newsletter if you get that, or just come back to the blog now and then.

Cely,

Yes, there would be a bit of a difference, but the main thing is for you to observe your puppy and see when she tends to go potty. Let her set the schedule.

In any case, when someone is home , the dog shouldn't be in the crate much... except at night or if she goes in there on her own when the door is open. Or if you need to take a shower or something!

I have never used chew toys for all day feeding, and my reaction is that this strategy should be saved for times of necessity, like if you have a job and have to heave your puppy for quite a few hours. Even then, I am no fan of all-day crate life and think it is way better for a family member, friend, neighbor or pet sitter to come by if you have a full time job.

Glad you like the newsletter. I write it for you... well, actually, even more for the dogs!

Best,
Rosana

Hi Rosana,

Every Tuesday, I'm delighted to get your "Newsletter." I had been reading about housetraining, crate traning and stuffing kibble or treats on chew toys and leave these in the crate all day. I'm quite anxious to know how is the schedule of potty training affected if the chew toys stuffed with dog food or treats are left all day in the crate for the puppy to be chewtoyaholic? Does this means that I have to take the puppy out of the crate and take her to her potty place every hour instead of after breakfast, after a nap etc.? There must be a difference in potty training schedule between a puppy who are fed through the bowl (breakfast and dinner) and the puppy fed through chew toys all day. Aren't they?

Hey Rosanna,

I'll look forward to the weekly dog training tip. It's always good for a reminder! As for when I train my dog, unfortunately it is all the time, but a lot of times it is unintentional! So when do I purposefully take time to train my dog? I try to do short 5 to 10 minute sessions during commercial breaks, or while I'm waiting for water to boil or when I delaying making that phone call.
