Readers, I am closing comments on this discussion. Someone recently submitted a comment which was quite reasonable in its pro-Milan comments, but I am just tired of this. There are probably many good forum threads where you could carry the discussions further. Just google milan forums or dog training forums, and I am sure you can find them.

Brenda, I understand your thinking as that is what I thought the first few times I saw his show. But see http://www.theotherendoftheleash.com/cesar-millan-and-merial for more thoughts from another top dog trainer. Or research Milan online. Television shows are created to provide illusions in many cases, and I am concerned about what you don't see as well as what you do.

BTW, thanks for posting in a thoughtful manner. I've had to delete some comments from people who call me names because they don't agree!

I Have watched his show many times and not once have I seen him harm any of the dogs so I am not sure why you think he is being harmful to them. And as far as fear he was only trying to get back control of many out of control dogs who have been spoiled by owners who didnt know how to train the dogs. Further more He has turned many dogs around who would have been put to sleep. I dont see where you get that he is cruel to them.

Readers, I just deleted a comment I got a couple of days ago that attacked my point of view. I was very startled. It was also a personal attack.

I think it is very sad when people don't know how to discuss things they disagree on without becoming rude. Of course, we see it all the time, and not just in dog training. (Politics, religion, you name it...)

But on this website, I will approve comments of people who disagree with me when they are presented politely.

Mark, I don't know about Canadian schools at all, but the post that is currently the most recent one on the blog is about an ebook on how to become a trainer.

I am an aspiring dog behaviourist and trainer. I am doing research and all that jazz, and all I can say is that this website has given me some insight on how to accomplish that. The one problem I am having with this goal is, I can't find a training school or course that mainly involves dog analogy. I am wondering if you could recomend anything (canada) for me.

Thanks for adding your point of view, Cindy. I agree he is doing good but there is a shadow side to his work in my opinion.

Hello Rosana,
Well, I have to sing Cesar's praises especially after the results I've have with my own dogs. I am so impressed with the (un)common sense to his approach. Have you studied wolves in the wild ... I have! Sometimes it 'looks' harsh, but the end result is a balance in the pack. A dog is the same, in that, they 'need' to know they're place.
We just got a puppy in December 2008. Our old 11 year old dog taught us how to set boundries. The puppy will not go too close to her face where as, with us, she used to jump up and grab our faces with her teeth! Ouch! From day one the older one 'laid down the law' and she has respect.
Cesar has saved may 'red zone' dogs from being euthanized and has also saved many human lives in relation to their dogs. He focuses on educating the owners which I believe is the key to a majority of problem dogs.

I'm sure there are many successful ways to educate people and dogs. Instead of giving negative feedback to the world concerning Milan, perhaps you should learn more about the good he is doing and spread the 'good news'.

Hi Norma,

I am not selling any specific training program here on this site. I review a lot of books and ebooks.

With your situation, I think you need to manage your dog's access to your door or doors. You might be able to rig up something from things you have already, or here is one idea.

Go to my page http://training-dogs.com/crate-training.html
and go down near the bottom where there is a picture of a cheerful brown dog in what's called an exercise pen. We have one just like that and it extends out straight. We have at times used it to keep a dog from getting into some area where we didn't want him. You could make a kind of double door with this (click on the picture to go to a good internet company that sells it) or as I said, with something you have around.

Also, the two of you probably can't give Charlie quite enough exercise, so I suggest you think about hiring a dog walker in your area -- either someone who does this already or a trusted friend or relative. Someone with a cool head who will pay good attention and keep the dog on leash, unless there is a dog park or other fenced area where Charlie can safely run free.

Best wishes and have fun together -- each day is precious!

I saved a dog on the run, pedigre I think, but doesn't matter he is loveable, we have had him 3 1/2 months and he has escaped 18 times. People always call and return him to us. He is licensed, chiped, and his identification with our phone number and his name; he has been checked out he is 7 years with hip and leg problems. In his food I include Cosaminds, barly green, vit e, fish oil.

A major problem for us is Charlie running, we are afraid he will be ran over he a medium small dog and car would not see him. The more we chase him the faster he runs, even when he comes to our door I call him and again starts to run.

Can us please tell me what products I should purchase from your training program. I am currenly in a wheelchair from foot and ankle surgery, and my husband is 79 years young. Charlie is 17 lbs, and has a lot of energy. He is under care with family Vet, for constant eye infection and brothesis. I think this happen from when he was on the run before I stop him. We put his photo on lost and found, but no one called. My husband loves this dog and so do I.

Thank you.
