Dog Aggression Handled by Clicker Training

angrydogbw Dog aggression is one of those problems that can perplex us, worry us, and have serious consequences if we don’t deal with it. The statistics for the numbers of children who get bitten are horrendous. Some dogs are fine with people but display dog-dog aggression.

I’m certainly no expert myself on how to handle aggression, so I was pleased this morning when I happened to be reading  Clickertraining: the 4 Secrets of Becoming a Supertrainer and came across an interesting example of how trainers Morten Egtvedt and Cecilie Koeste handled dog-dog aggression in Morten’s dog Kiro. Environmentally Friendly Pet Stain Cleaners

How do you clean up pet stains and smells? The last time we had a puppy to house train, we also had a house with wall to wall carpets. At that point, I discovered Nature’s Miracle, a very effective and non-toxic product which removes both stains and odors. Our carpets got a lot of it, as our young Basenji puppy saw no reason to go out in the rain to do her business. I liked this stuff, fortunately, because  Sunbeam was the most challenging puppy to potty train that we have ever had. Nature’s Miracle removes odors and stains because the enzymes it contains somehow gobble them up. You can use it on furniture, clothing, crates, pretty much anywhere you need it.

I have often recommended it, and today I got to wondering what else is out there. There are so many more eco-friendly products now in all categories than there were some fifteen years ago. Read the rest of this entry

Train Your Dog – with RSS

RSS doesn’t stand for Really Scrumptious Snacks, though it’s always a good idea to use them in training. RSS is an internet term, usually described as a shortcut for Really Simple Syndication. But this is a dog training blog, so why am I talking about this?

By using RSS and an online reader – I’ll be demonstrating with Google Reader, my favorite – you can keep up to date way more easily with your favorite online blogs, for dog training or whatever else interests you. In this article, first I  will try to entice you into wanting to use RSS and then I’ll tell you how.

The other day I received an email from a woman who said she was interested in becoming a dog trainer but lacked the money that a lot of the places she had checked out would require. Did I have any ideas?

Well, learning to be a dog trainer takes quite a lot of actual experience with dogs, and much of that experience would ideally be working with a really good trainer who was good at teaching also.
