My blog post from that time:
It’s handy that we have a large fenced yard.
“Seems like we might think about getting another dog,” I said to my husband some weeks back.
“I thought we were doing great with just one,” he said.
I let it go that time, but I did comment from time to time. I made friends with a woman who lives nearby and does a lot of dog rescue. Thanks to her, a couple of pit bull mixes have come over, at different times, for play dates. Lola enjoyed them both–one more than the other–but the cats didn’t like either one. And being quite young, they were more energetic than Lola, Kelly, or I wanted!
Kelly and I been married a lot of years, and we know how to work things out gradually. One day I mused, “I think it would be a good time to get another dog after I finish doing all our financial paperwork for our business, organizing the house, and writing that novel I started… the first draft, anyway. At that point, I’d have more time to focus on another dog.”
Kelly smiled enigmatically.
But when I floated the same idea some weeks later, and asked if he would be on board with the idea, he said yes. We were in the hot tub at the time, and I was so astonished that I slid on the bottom of the tub and almost took in some water. Why had he changed? Time, I think!
So now the finances are mostly done, the house reorganizing is getting closer to being done, and at least I’m back into the novel and thanking my lucky stars that I said the first draft.
Update: we soon found one on Petfinder. Great site!
